We are a different kind of a Pest Management Company and so because we are also a warehouse service provider. Our primary business entails providing storage space for keeping food grains across India and we have been doing that for more than ten years now. Right at inception, we developed our own in-house capability to protect grains in storage and that is done primarily by fumigation. Over the years, we have developed expertise in such pest treatment and today are the leading Indian fumigation agency having recently reached milestone of fumigating more than 60 million MT of grains till date. We take this opportunity to thank all our customers who avail fumigation services from us and our vendors. We use the best materials available and those include Aluminium Phosphide fumigant purchased from Excel Cropcare and United Phosphorus Limited (UPL) and fumigation covers from Shah Shivji Valji & Co. We have partnerships with our vendors through which we develop, evaluate and use materials for most effective fumigation.
Fumigation of bagged grains under plastic sheeting (called fumigation covers) is the only method of controlling stored product insects that are natural pests of grains in storage. It is also an inexpensive method considering that it costs lesser than twenty rupees to fumigate one metric tonne of grain that can be worth close to twenty thousand rupees. As grain storage in India is still heavily reliant on use of jute bags (called gunny bags) the pre-dominant method of grain protection is fumigation of bagged grains under cover and by use of Aluminium Phosphide (ALP) fumigant. The process is fairly simple with a stack of grains needing fumigation getting covered under plastic sheeting and introduction of ALP either as tablets or granules. The stack is covered by dead weight (sandbags) which restricts the fumigant gas from escaping outside the enclosure. ALP releases phosphine gas when it contacts moisture in air. Phosphine gas kills insects and thus renders the grain free of live insects. The process of fumigation happens typically over one week to ten days.
We fumigate more than a million tonnes of grains a month using the above method. In our journey so far, we have also developed skills for fumigation of grains in silos for which we rely on technology developed by our partner UPL, called Quick Phosphine Release (QPR). In QPR technology, ALP granules are used in a generator outside a Silo Fumigation Services phosphine that is released into the silo and also recirculated for effective fumigation. Each post-harvest season our team is busy carrying out fumigation of bagged grains across India and protecting them from their natural enemies – insects, which can damage grain and also render them unfit for human consumption.
We have been doing fumigation for more than a decade now and look forward to this journey of being protectors of food grains. We also serve customers in the entire food supply chain from processors to storage to retailers thus being involved in protecting food from farm gate to dinner plate!
